Queen Anne’s regiment

Had this email this morning and you can bet it made me very happy - hope you enjoy the pictures and news as much as I did. This is a great development

'My mate Lance (of Galloping Major miniatures) has recommend your blogs, I’ve enjoyed reading them!

We are both members of a new unit created for the period 1705 to 1715. We recreate the Queen Anne’s regiment, which became the 8th foot. Our first event was at Hampton Court to celebrate the arrival of George 1 in 1714, back in Easter this year.  We have another event at Hampton Court on the 26th & 27th October. I’ve attached a couple of pictures for you. Hope they are of interest.
We don’t have a website as yet, we have been too busy researching and making kit!
Hope you like the pictures!

Hopefully we will be at more events next year.

cheers

New releases from Minden miniatures

There's some interesting new figures on the Alte Fritz blog. One is a gout ridden Maurice de Saxe in his litter supported by Uhlans de Saxe. This has got to be this year's most interesting personality figure. Also new and worth checking out are the Cuirasiers du Roi. So something for french forces everywhere... Also while you're there look at the Kickstarter Project on the artillery equipment.

Outlander (TV series) redcoats

It's a good thing that the new TV series about a woman travelling back in time to the Scotland of the 1740s wasn't being screened in the run up to the referendum as the depiction of the English is terrible. Take your typical bad guy - Sheriff of Nottingham's men, the English in Braveheart and the Patriot and you have an idea of what they're like. People believe things they see on the tv....there should be more balance but I suppose the series isn't aimed at me - my wife's enjoying it. I am cringeing...

Prestonpans 1745-2014

All photos by Ruth Watson. These photos appeared on the Lace Wars FB page and I thought you'd like a look. Top is some of the 10th (Cobhams) Dragoons. Excellent unit. Second is the Highland charge hitting home. Third pic is one of the Edinburgh City Guard running for his life. Bottom is the Hanoverian troops volleying. List of participant groups

Sheriffmuir 1715

'Sheriffmuir 1715 is the military history of a doomed Jacobite rising in Scotland, which enjoyed far more public support and arguably far more chance of success than Bonnie Prince Charlie's attempt 30 years later. Unlike the '45, the uprising which culminated in the brutal battle of Sheriffmuir was very much a Scottish affair, fought without either French troops or assistance, and unashamedly aimed at reversing the hated Union with England and re-asserting Scotland's independence. However, in this lively new study by acclaimed military historian Stuart Reid, a completely fresh look is taken at the campaign, while the battle is reassessed in the light of a thorough knowledge of the ground and the armies which fought there.'

Outlander

Wiki Watched a couple of episodes of this new big budget series set in the Jacobite Rebellion. It's based on novels that tell the story of a woman who is transported back in time from the 1940s to the 1740s and finds herself in a tug of love across the divide of history. It's OK - the redcoats are the usual bad guys a la Hollywood but the settings and Scottish locations make it worth the effort. IMDB
Don't worry if you havent seen it - it's not available in this country yet - it's on in the US on Starz.
