Feeling sorry for English Civil War reenactors. The weather would have been perfect for a muster and they have to sit on their hands at home. The picture I think is by Richard Hook and it depicts Royalist shot.

Apparently 2021 will see a reenactment of Ramillies for its 315th. Last time it was done was 2006. Below are the Dutch Blue Guards by Phil Thomason photography.

The object of this work is to give simple, accurate information for the French army during the War of the Austrian Succession, and as such, it is relevant to that time frame. The uniforms, the cut of which was basically same more or less from the late 1720s till after the Seven Years War (except for the addition of lapels to infantry uniforms in the late 1750s), took a more austere appearance following the clothing regulations of 1730s, which reflected both moral ideals against ostentation with just a little bit of economy, the heavy embroidery on the officers' coats, the colored waistcoats and breeches disappeared, except in the foreign units, but there again the regulations were never completely respected.

Luckner and his early days

Luckner had an interesting life. From humble origins he raised himself to Marshal of France eventually guillotined. But his early career in the SYW is the main interest here. Bavarian, Dutch, Hanoverian before France in 1763.

Kurt Christoph Graf von Schwerin on horseback - Antoine Pesne

Of course at Prague Von Schwerin was killed. He had a long and interesting career fighting at Blenheim, the Schellenburg, Ramillies and Malplaquet as well as Gadebusch and was in the camp with Charles XII at Bender. Read about him here.
