Blenheim 1704 by D.S.V. Fosten. Almark 1975

I used to have this book in the 70s. Don't know what happened to it. Thanks to Andy for these images. They are a bit outdated but they are charming and I think they are worth the time looking at them. The backgrounds are very atmospheric. It is a trip down memory lane for me. If you want to get it there are copies on ebay. (Click to enlarge)

The Battle of Rowton Heath 1645

 Today's anniversary.

The Battle of Rowton Heath, also known as the Battle of Rowton Moor, occurred on 24 September 1645 during the English Civil War. Fought by the Parliamentarians, commanded by Sydnam Poyntz, and the Royalists under the personal command of King Charles I, it was a significant defeat for the Royalists, with heavy losses and Charles prevented from relieving the Siege of Chester.

Kolin 1757/2020

There have been very few reenactments this year so it is nice to see this film of a recent event in the Czech Republic. This film is really well done.

New 15mms from Khurasan

Hi, we've just added seven new codes to our late 17th century range in 15mm, available here:

http://khurasanminiatures.tripod.com/late-seventeeth-century.html

They are a mixed bunch, first four codes for militia such as the Monmouth rebels and American colonial militia for the King Phillips War period, then some regular infantry with flintlocks, and finally a set of high command for the Netherlands, Brandenburg, Sweden ... and Munster!

The codes are:

Militia marching with matchlocks

Militia with mixed polearms (mostly pikes but a rebuilt scythe and a pitchfork too)

American colonial militia shooting

American colonial militia marching

Flintlock musketeers marching

Flintlock musketeers standing

European high command

Two of the codes are shown here, flintlock musketeers standing and American colonial militia at the ready.

Strelets 1/72 WSS

While on the subject of WSS I thought it might be useful to look at this range so far. I must admit I like them but I haven't managed to paint my set yet.

See some painted WSS Strelets-r here

Nigel Billington's WSS Warlord 28mms

Thanks to Nigel for these. He says on the Wargaming the WSS facebook group

'28mm WSS: British 2nd Foot The Queen Dowager's Regiment and Danish Regiment Fynske
I bought some boxes of WSS plastics from Warlord Games recently and they are lovely figures, very easy to assemble. I cannot say for sure that this is the start of another project but I can say that I will paint up 4 British/Allied battalions and 4 French/Bavarian battalions to start off with and then take it from there – keep or sell depending on how I feel later.
But, so far, they are lovely to paint and here is (on the left) Catherine of Braganza's regiment (she was married to King Charles II) and after his death she became the Queen Dowager, an unusual position in British history. The regiment has startling sea-green facings and part of the joy of the WSS is that uniform details are very hazy at best so you can, within certain limits, do, more-or-less, what you want. Plus the flags are dazzling too!'

Interesting looking set of rules by the author of the Malplaquet Osprey. Based on the old rules 'Loose files and American scramble' which I remember being fun. Read about them here
