British Bluecoats

Of course in the 1680s and 90s not all British regiments wore red. I'm not sure if there was any reason for this choice of colour - was it a legacy of the Monmouth rebellion? Who knows but for example Lord Herbert's when raised in 1689 were blue recruiting in Wales and Luttrel's regiment seen mustering here in 1688 at Dunster Castle Somerset (art by T Cuneo) were initially a blue-coated unit, along with the Earl of Bath's - see below. Any information on the subject would be most welcome.
