Arrest of Judge Jefferies/Hats

This picture from 1688 of the arrest of the infamous Bloody Judge has some interesting costume features - vertical pockets on the soldiers' coats, cravats pre Steenkirque... Jeffreys is disguised as a sailor - note his garb.
Hats
In the background are some interesting hats including one the ECW people call a montero - we might know it as a karpus or tapabord.
The 18th century as far as hats were concerned was under what Aileen Ribeiro called the 'tyranny of the tricorn' but there are variations, particularly in the Anglo-American world that might be of interest. I will try to feature a few of the relevant hats over the next few weeks.
