Preben Kannik

This book 'Military Uniforms of the World in Colour' was the first book as a kid I remember on the subject of uniformology. I used to get it from the library practically every week. Colour printing was quite unusual in those days and so it seemed amazing. The English edition - it was originally in Danish - came out in 1968. It was written and illustrated by the then curator of the Army Museum in Copenhagen. It was wonderfully non Anglocentric and so wars like the Scanian war featured alongside things like the American Civil War with equal prominence. I think the style of the paintings may have influenced the Osprey books and certainly Blandford Press the publishers of the English language edition used the format again many times. A highly influential and enjoyable work.
