Sedgemoor 1685

Church at Westonzoyland where many of the Rebel prisoners were kept overnight - the stonework round the entrance still bears the marks of Royal swords having been resharpened after the night before's deadly work.
Last night and this morning (5/6th) was the anniversary of the battle of Sedgemoor fought near Bridgwater. I tend to find it a little depressing reading about the battle and its aftermath when prisoners were stripped, beaten and hanged, so I will post instead a link to War and Game who have a couple of scans of Embleton paintings from the rare Osprey by John Tincey on the British army of the late 17th century.
