A military history of the 17th century and the 18th century
I have this CD and I play it all the time whilst painting figures.
The arrangements for modern military orchestra are not to my taste, the others are ok. I like the following CD much better:http://www.amazon.co.uk/Altpreu%C3%9Fische-Milit%C3%A4rmusik-Christian-Bl%C3%BCggel/dp/B00EKVZVP4/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1427124196&sr=8-3&keywords=milit%C3%A4rmusik
BTW, in case you are interested in the 1754 French drum signals for the infantry (in use until 1831), here they are:http://theatrum-belli.org/linstruction-pour-les-tambours-de-1754-une-partition-fondatrice-sort-de-loubli/
And if you are interested in 18th century Swedish military music: The following CD contains 5 signals for fife and drum as well as 8 pieces for wind band for the Södermanlands regementes musik. From a manuscript dated 1774:http://www.ukcd.net/details.asp?ref=1209&lang=EN
The Brits. Slightly outdated from a musicological point of view but still quite interesting (available as digital music albums only):http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sounds-Military-Vol-1-1600-1750/dp/B0051DR8S8/ref=sr_1_2?s=dmusic&ie=UTF8&qid=1427135044&sr=1-2&keywords=sounds+militaryhttp://www.amazon.co.uk/Sounds-Military-Vol-2-1750-1790/dp/B0051DQYD8/ref=sr_1_3?s=dmusic&ie=UTF8&qid=1427135044&sr=1-3&keywords=sounds+military
The following CD contains some interesting music from the WSS, including a number of British, Dutch and French marches:http://www.amazon.co.uk/Peace-Utrecht-Camerata-Trajectina/dp/B00CC9PASE/ref=sr_1_11?ie=UTF8&qid=1427136084&sr=8-11&keywords=camerata+trajectina
Thanks for this. Found some similar stuff on iTunes for the digital download set.Good tip, should keep my brushes moving in time!
