Muscovy's Soldiers: The Emergence of the Russian Army 1462-1689

This is a new paperback from Helion. Covering the age of transformation from an Eastern-influenced force to one more on Western lines. Also covers the transformation from bow to firearm. The book starts with the Muscovites influenced by the Mongol Golden Horde to the one inherited by Peter the Great. At the start of the study the army is almost all cavalry but this changes into something more resembling pike and shot. There is plenty of depth to this study in addition there are some excellent plates by Maksim Borisov. This is probably the best book on the subject we have in English. I must admit I knew very little on the subject but this book has been very useful in giving a good basis of knowledge.
