How Historically Accurate is the Battle in Barry Lyndon? | Portraying Linear Combat in Film

  1. One of the most historically accurate movies, the battle scenes are particularly impressive. I saw Barry Lyndon when it came out (one of the first films I took a girlfriend (called Julia) to) and was impressed as a 15-year old, still am today. The only difference between such scenes and reality is that there would have been much larger numbers of troops in real battles. Ridley Scott's 1st film as Director, 'The Duellists' is also extremely accurate, set in the later French Revolutionary and Napoleonic period.
