It's 1660. Following the death of Oliver Cromwell, and the failure of his son Richard to run the Protectorate, the monarchy has been restored and Charles II is on the throne. As the divided nation attempts to heal, an Act of Oblivion is passed, granting amnesty to all for their parts in the Civil War. But a select group have been excluded from this amnesty - those men who signed the death warrant of Charles I. Two such regicides - Ned Whalley and his son-in-law William Goffe - have fled to America. But even across the Atlantic they are not safe, so long as Richard Nayler of the Regicide Committee seeks retribution. Episode One The regicides Ned and Will arrive in Cambridge, Massachusetts. While in England, Nayler seeks to find the actual death warrant of Charles I. Author Robert Harris, the master of plotting, is well known for his best-selling fiction, including Fatherland, Enigma, The Ghost Writer, Archangel and An Officer And A Spy.
