The Flashing Blade TV programme Opening Credits

I can't believe I have never posted this on this blog before. If you are my age then you probably watched this in the late 60s. I used to watch it although the plot was a bit beyond my ken. The song which was part of the appeal was only on the British version. Wiki

We came, we saw, God conquered - the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth's military effort in the relief of Vienna, 1683

 By Michal Paradowski

The campaign of 1683 and the Polish forces in great depth

This is a fantastic book and easily the best book on the subject in the English language. The majestic hussars reckoned to be the finest cavalry in Europe are described and illustrated in detail. Of course the other troops of the relief force are written about and the author stresses the fact that Hussars were only one component in the army. Pancerni cavalry were more numerous. As well as the relief of Vienna other skirmishes and battles of the campaign of 1683 are examined. There are excellent colour plates by Sergey Shamenkov as well as many period engravings and art. The Lithuanian contribution gets a chapter as all the events of the campaign of 1683. All in all a superb book ideal for historians and wargamers.

Monmouth Scytheman after the Taylor narrative

I got asked by the Sedgemoor visitor centre if they could use my art for colouring sheets ( for the children if it rains) so I redid my drawing of a Rebel scytheman after Taylor's description.  Taylor narrative here

Black Sails Battle on the Beach

I didn't watch Black Sails but this clip of an amphibious assault looks pretty good.  Films set in the early 18th century are pretty rare. Rotten tomatoes reviews
