A military history of the 17th century and the 18th century
Looks like a Sebastian Vrancx to me. I've never seen this painting... interesting to see the wagon fort depicted.
Simon de Vos appears to be correct. The painting is in the Hermitage Museum, St. Petersburg.https://artchive.ru/artists/3118~Simon_de_Vos/works/29851~Srazhenie_pri_Vimpfene_6_maja_1622_godahttps://www.artclon.com/m/plus/view.php?aid=12555
And this is from the Hermitage website itself:http://www.arthermitage.org/Simon-de-Vos/Battle-of-Vimpfen-on-6-May.html
I just put up a post about this here: https://honorandintrigue.blogspot.com/The Hermitage Museum website actually lists Vrancx not de Vos as the author/artist.https://www.hermitagemuseum.org/wps/portal/hermitage/digital-collection/01.+Paintings/30891/?lng=en
Thanks for the links.Well then, what shall I say? The left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing?Whatever. Vrancx or de Vos, who cares. Great picture, anyway.
