40 years ago this May my family and I took part in its first week-long living history near Gosport at a reconstructed 17th century hamlet. ECWS> It had been going a few years but it was new to us. I didn't drive then so my folks dropped us off and picked us up a week later. We had access to the swimming baths to freshen up. I was new at this kind of thing so I was a trained band pikeman. We had a child and a young baby who was used as a prop in various shenanigans of the 'who is the father?' type thing. We met a lot of people. Some we still know now. Quite an education.
