''Dudley Bard, illegitimate son of Prince Rupert, was born c.1666. Rupert sent him to Eton, but with Titus Oates' wild Popish Plot, the prince prudently sent Dudley abroad.
On Rupert's death in 1682, Charles II gave Dudley £100, and the boy became a captain in the Coldstream Guards. His commander was Lord Craven.
Dudley fought for James VII/II at Sedgemoor and was killed at the Siege of Buda in 1686.''
