Looking for a period image of a karpus (cap associated with Swedish troops) with no luck. The figure on the left - is that a karpus?
Since posing that question I discovered Boris Megorsky has an article on Carpus caps of the Petrine army. This Russian language PDF has lots of artefacts and examples.

Yes, this figure of a Dutch soldier may well be wearing a "karpus". Why not? "Karpus" apparently is just one name for a cap provided with flaps (lined with fur or not) destined to cover the forehead, ears and neck of the wearer (if needed). The Swedish called it karpus, others called it differently, e.g., Montero cap...;-). The design varied but the essentials were the same. Apart from Russian caps of this type, Megorsky's article shows several Swedish, French, and Dutch examples (see p. 372f., "Montero" cap p.374). So, plenty of period images. Where's the problem? For Swedish troops wearing the karpus (not contemporary pictures, though) you may also have a look at this site (pp.12ff.):
