Oxford Blues 1685 Ralph Mitchard
In
1685,
the
Oxford
Blues,
part
of
the
Royal
Regiment
of
Horse
Guards,
played
a
significant
role ii
n
the
Monmouth
Rebellion.
They
were
involved
in
the
battle
of
Sedgemoor,
where
they
helped
King
James
II
defeat
the
rebels.
This
marked
the
regiment's
first
action
and
set
the
stage
for
their
future
engagements
in
the
British
Army.
The
regiment's
nickname,
'The
Blues',
was
derived
from
their
blue
uniforms,
which
were
a
distinctive
feature
of
their
uniform
at
the
time.
