Siege of a town


I don't know the date of this painting called Siege of a town by Van der Meulen but these close-up views of figures are interesting.

1673 Arrival of Louis XIV at the Siege of Maastricht. I think it's in the Louvre now.

Van der Meulen's paintings are really great, though I rather doubt that it was a real view on Maastricht, for some reason 17th century painters love to put some extra hills in the paintings (hey, it's the LOW countries). Uniform variety is also notable, wasn't it the 1690's they used real uniforms?
