Battle of Poltava - 300 years later

I didn't understand a word of it but still found it enjoyable - contains scenes from an unknown (to me) vintage movie.

An interesting clip . . . I wonder what they were saying.

The black-n-white movie is Soviet "Petr Pervyi" ("Peter the First") from 1937-38.
One episode can be found here:

The tv programm posted here was on Russian TV several months ago. They talk about course of campaign of 1708-1709, about strength and weakness of Swedish and Russian armies, about the battle of Poltava, of course.
In the end they show original Peter's uniforms coat and hat he wore on the day of battle of Poltava.

This is a very fine documentary about the Battle of Poltava and the way that Russians, Ukrainians and Swedes view the battle from today's perspective. Other chapters show how the modern countries are portraying the battle, Peter I, Charles XII, and Mazepa to promote a "revisionist" view based on modern nationalism and ideas. Very interesting. Too bad no English subtitles.
