News from Bruno Mugnai

'With volume 9 (Sweden), we have almost reached the end of this series, which I began in 2018. It has been a fantastic seven years, but now perhaps the most difficult task awaits me: the army of the Sun King. I should complete the work by the end of this year.'

Auprès de ma Blonde ("Le Prisonnier de Hollande") - Fife & Drum

 JG Baroque says:

This is a fife & drum arrangement I made of the French folk song "Auprès de ma Blonde" ("Next to My Girl"), also known as "Le Prisonnier de Hollande" ("The Prisoner of Holland"), a song from the late 17th century, when many French soldiers were captive in the Netherlands as a result of the Franco-Dutch War. The image shows the French forces of Louis XIV crossing the Rhine in the first year of the war, with a massive force of about 40 000 men. The painting was made by the French painter Joseph Parrocel in 1699.

Battle of Konzer Brücke 1675

 Today's anniversary. Imperial victory. Wiki

In 1675 Montecuccoli and Turenne had been manoeuvering between Philippsburg and Strassburg for an advantage, each seeking to cover his own country and to live upon that of the enemy. At last Turenne prevailed and had the Imperialists at a disadvantage on the Sasbach, where, in opening the action, he was killed by a cannon-shot (27 July).

Devastated by the loss of their commander, the French hastily surrendered all their advantages, and Montecucculi sharply following up their retreat, and drove them over the Rhine and almost to the Vosges.

At the same time the Imperial forces under Charles IV, Duke of Lorraine were besieging Trier, which Turenne had taken in the autumn of 1673.

Citadel of Besançon - 1683

In 1683, Louis XIV visited the citadel of Besançon, while the work carried out by Vauban ended. Franche-Comté has been French for a few years after the two conquests of 1668 and 1674.
The Aunis regiment is here in garrison in the city of Besançon, which becomes a key fortress of the Vauban pre-square. Musketeers and pickers maneuver and canton at the citadel.
The association was present at the great century days organized by La Citadelle de Besançon thanks to Mrs. Cavalli.
