Harquebusier Armour of Alexander Popham, c.1630, III.1956 and III.1957-8
The Littlecote collection of arms and armour is the largest and most important surviving armoury from the time of the British Civil Wars. It was formed by the Parliamentarian colonel and MP for Bath, Alexander Popham.
Originally housed at Littlecote House in Wiltshire, the future of this unique armoury came under threat when it was put up for sale at auction in 1985. Fortunately, after a major fundraising and publicity campaign, the Armouries saved the collection for the nation.
