Christopher Duffy The Army of Maria Theresa

This was a big influence on me in the old days. Frederick the Great one was good too.

It is a great book. I had the Frederick one but not this until a few years ago, though I read a mate's copy as a youth. The Frederick one had a second edition in which Duffy revised his view of the Prussian light troops.

I have the two early volumes and never got around to buying the updated versions. A much missed author.

Superb volume for anyone interested in the Austrian army between 1740 and 1780. I based my whole Army of Trockenbeeren-Auslese in this Austrian army, and its heads of State, the Emperor Violoncello and his successor, Empress Harmonica upon CharlesVI and Maria Theresa herself. The Archduke Piccolo is altogether fictitious - a bolder version of Graf Daun, possibly.
Great resource book for war gamers. So is its companion volume.
Cheers,
